From Rob Williams, Room for All former co-president:
Along with the entire Room for All Board of Directors, I celebrate the news that on October 18, 2011, the Rockland-Westchester Classis voted to restore the Rev. Dr. Norman J. Kansfield to the office of Minister of Word and Sacrament. Following the action of the 2005 General Synod which suspended him from that office, Dr. Kansfield was transferred to the care of Rockland-Westchester Classis.
After a nearly unanimous vote in favor of his restoration, Dr. Kansfield was invited to renew the vows he made when he became a member of the Classis of Rockland-Westchester. Norm read – and we heard – the Declaration for Ministers of Word and Sacrament with deep emotion and gratitude. Prayers of thanksgiving and blessing were offered, followed by heartfelt ovation and applause.
The Rev. Tom Danney, Clerk of Classis, reported the action to the General Synod Council. In the letter he expressed the Classis’ gratitude “for the gift of God’s grace that has permeated this long and arduous process, for the loving and supportive care the Classis has been able to extend to the Kansfields before and after the Reverend Kansfield’s reception into the Classis, and to be able to be a faithful servant within the Reformed Church in America in the resolution of these matters.”
Thanks be to God!
