Leading up to the Special Council on Human Sexuality in April, the Reformed Church in America has published a series of 21 devotionals to help the denomination and participants prepare. We encourage all Room for All supporters to sign up to receive these devotionals via email and follow along as we pray for the church and particularly those LGBTQ people who are participating.
In addition, Room for All has commissioned a series of 21 Inclusive Prayers and Devotionals written by supporters and friends of Room for All to coincide with and complement the RCA’s series. We will publish those here on OUTsights over the next 21 days.
These readings and prayers are solely the words and opinions of each guest writer and do not necessarily reflect the views of Room for All, their staff, or the board.
Day 15
A Prayer for the Special Council from Rev. Miriam Bush
Praise and thanksgiving belong to you,
Maker of All, Source of all Goodness.
Holy is your name; Beloved is your whole creation.
Loving God, Birther of all that is
and was and will be –
was it unfathomable void
confusing chaos or
deep darkness when your Spirit
brooded long ago
when you breathed new life
and opened way for
substance, beauty, meaning
calling each one good,
yes, very good?
Come again, Brooding Spirit
and hover over the darkness again.
Where seeds of confusion,
misunderstanding, contention,
are scattered;
where fear, despair, and condemnation
manage to take root,
where fruitful germination appears only dimly –
shine your light of wisdom and grace,
send rains of mercy and reconciliation.
Breathe again that fresh wind
and holy fire which brings new life,
that bears good fruit –
for with you and in you all things are possible.
May it be good. Yes, may it be very, very good.
Praise and thanksgiving belong to you. Amen.
