Today outsights welcomes RfA’s Executive Director, Marilyn Paarlberg, who, along with others, represented RfA at General Synod this year.
Prayer After General Synod, 2016
(Based on “God of the Sparrow,” a hymn by Jaroslav Vajda. Tune: Roeder, by Carl Schalk. # 272 in Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs.)
God of the lesbian,
God of the gay,
God of the human race.
How does the creature say love?
How does the creature say grace?
God of the Synod,
God of the church,
God of the RCA,
How do your people cry pain?
How do your people cry save?
God of compassion,
God who forgives,
God who makes strife to cease,
How do your people repair?
How do your people find peace?
God of our present,
God of our past,
God of our life to come,
How do your children say trust?
How do your children say home?
Good words, Marilyn. God will expect us to answer for our deafness. Thankfully, God is love.
Thank you, Marilyn, for the gift of these expansive stanzas of enduring affirmation and timely questions. God bless you and Cameron and all who serve to bring this light and love of God to our church assemblies, congregations, and members.
