Room for All’s mission is to “support, educate, and advocate for the welcome and full affirmation of people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions in the Reformed Church in America (RCA).” The RCA is the oldest continuing protestant denomination in the United States, and extends from coast to coast across the US and Canada.
The General Synod of the RCA is the annual denomination-wide gathering of delegates, where they meet to do the business of the church. General Synod Council serves as the executive committee of the General Synod, and the General Secretary of the RCA is their employee and the head of the RCA staff, carrying out the work of the General Synod and General Synod Council.
The denomination is made up of 9 larger Regional Synods, which in turn are made up of smaller Classes (singular: Classis). Each Classis is made up of many individual local congregations.
The RCA also has historical relationships with three undergrad institutions and two theological seminaries. The colleges are Central College (Pella, IA), Hope College (Holland, MI), and Northwestern College (Orange City, IA). The seminaries are New Brunswick Theological Seminary (New Brunswick, NJ) and Western Theological Seminary (Holland, MI).
Room for All is an independent nonprofit organization; we do not receive funding from the RCA, nor have we traditionally been allowed a formal presence at General Synod gatherings. We rely on the generous donations of our supporters (who come from all corners of the RCA) and foundations to carry out our work.
