In 2016, General Synod declared that “the RCA does not support the use of reorientation/reparative therapy,” but in states or municipalities where the practice is legal, well-meaning parents still subject their LGBTQ children to some form of this damaging and abusive practice.
Room for All is proud to be one of the sponsors of a six-session webinar series beginning March 12*, offered through San Francisco Theological Seminary, “Confronting Conversion Therapy,” which addresses the practice from medical, legal, theological and pastoral perspectives:
With the recent film “Boy Erased” many people were shocked by the damage and pain of “conversion therapy”. But, what is even more astounding is that this practice continues and in at least 30 states conversion therapy continues to be legal. So, the 700,000 victims of this type of therapy continue to grow. This is all being done in the name of God and mental health therapy. Families, therapist, counselors, pastors and people of faith will have to confront and support this phenomenon of covers ion therapy.
This webinar and/or training sessions are opportunities to become educated about conversion therapy and engage with others to develop effective strategies for supporting those who have gone through this damaging religious and mental assault as well as stopping others from suffering this “therapy” that have been repudiated by professional and religious bodies.
*There are two levels/costs for participation:
- The $300 level includes access to the prerecorded webinars plus six weekly interactive Zoom discussion/training sessions with the conference facilitators, taking place Tuesdays 3/12 – 4/16 at 6:30 PM Pacific time.
- The $180 level includes only the webinars.
- Scholarships are available through the Seminary. If that financial assistance isn’t sufficient, limited need-based scholarships for RCA participants are available upon request. Please contact us at info@roomforall.com.
